Pay Bill

NOTICE TO PATIENTS/RESIDENTS PAYING BY CREDIT CARD (ONLINE / CALL-INS)

When you pay your medical bill with a credit card, any unpaid balance on your credit card account is not considered to be “medical debt”. There are specific federal and state protections for medical debt which will not apply when credit cards are used to pay medical bills. Medical debt protections which do not apply include:

  • Healthcare professionals and institutions are prohibited from sending medical debt to credit reporting agencies.
  • Healthcare professionals and institutions are prohibited from garnishing wages or placing liens on a patient’s primary residence due to a medical debt owed
  • After April 30, 2022, the statutory interest rate on unpaid medical debt judgments cannot exceed 2%.

Acknowledgment
Do you acknowledge and still wish to pay your/the resident’s bill with a credit card and forego the protections for medical debt listed above?
