As one of the only local NYS-Certified programs, our 20-bed in-patient skilled nursing Traumatic Brain Injury Rehabilitation Program provides treatment designed specifically for the unique needs of people who have sustained brain injuries resulting from heart attack, tumor, brain infections, strokes, trauma, aneurisms and other neurological conditions. Through an interdisciplinary team approach, a highly focused plan of care is developed for each individual. It offers a comprehensive clinical evaluation with a medical, physical, cognitive, speech/language and psychosocial focus. An individualized treatment program is designed by the Brain Injury Rehab Team in conjunction with support from the resident’s family. Medical care is managed by on-site Physiatrists from Upstate University Hospital’s Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Department with a strong emphasis on building cognitive skills, coupled with physical therapy that focuses on the individual’s functional independence. Our goal is to help individuals reach their highest potential as quickly as possible, in as many areas as possible. Our therapeutic programs focus on improving each person’s ability to perform the most important daily activities needed to return home, such as self-care skills, home-based skills, and community-based activities.
